Depression

Depression is considered to be a mental illness affecting many Australians. It is classified as a mood disorder characterised by prolonged feelings of sadness, hopelessness and inadequacy. The state of depression has many more symptoms such as: feelings of worthlessness, loss of interest in activities, disturbed sleep, appetite and so forth.
The National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing found that 1.9 million (12%) out of all people aged between 16 – 85 years ( 16 million ) had experienced a depressive episode at some stage in their life.
As a point of caution: Certain illnesses ( e.g. underactive thyroid gland, anaemia, nutritional deficiencies ) are known to produce feelings and behaviour patterns similar to depression.
In most instances, the ‘onslaught of depression’ is triggered by past events. These events could have been experienced as traumatic. They can be linked to a loss of some kind ( e.g. death, job, relationship, health, accident, loss of confidence). A depressed person commonly dwells over past events and certainly has a negative outlook towards the future.
Can anything be done about depression?
Yes, there is almost always a solution to alter the way you feel about yourself, others, and situations. At Satori Self Development, our aim is to focus on your abilities and capabilities residing within you that may have become “dormant” as your situation progressively worsened. It is merely a matter to bring your abilities and capabilities to the foreground.
We would need to know if you are currently taking any antidepressants or any other medication for treatment. Before we start, and only with your consent would we consult your practitioner.
We adjust our approach to your personal requirements. Every person diagnosed with depression presents a different set of circumstances. We want to make sure we fully understand what happened and what is happening right now in your life. This will be the platform and foundation for future therapy and coaching.
A solution oriented therapy focuses on your present situation. It deals with the issue at hand as it presents itself. With appropriate and successful intervention in the present the future will look much brighter.
