Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a treatment method that provides relief from physical and emotional pain.
EFT has been shown to be effective on fear, anxiety, and trauma-based symptoms. When measured against the standards of the American Psychological Association’s Division 12 Task Force on Empirically Validated Treatments, EFT is found to be an “evidence-based” practise for anxiety, depression, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
This treatment method was developed by Gary Craig and the concept behind this treatment is that “the cause of all negative emotions i.e., energy imbalances is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”
How does Emotional Freedom Technique work?
It is considered a form of acupuncture, yet does not use needles. It is non-invasive and stimulates energy points on the body by using the fingertips to tap, touch and stimulate meridian endpoints on the surface area of the skin.
To release blockages, EFT, paired with specified mental activity (holding a thought) taps on specific meridian points of the physical body. When these blocks are removed, the problem emotion is free to move throughout the body.
The process begins with a declaration about how the problem feels and ends with a total acceptance and acknowledgement of the problem.
To begin the EFT procedure, you would say something like, “Even though I have this (fear) about (for example, the time I was criticised for being clumsy), I fully and completely accept myself.”
While tapping on a particular spot, you repeat the message three times.
In the second stage, you concentrate on the sensation (fear) in your body and score its intensity on a scale of 1 to 10, 0 = no fear and 10 = maximum fear. Continue tapping on various meridian endpoints around your face while verbally saying “this fear” at the same time.
This sequence can be repeated several times. The intensity of the fear should be less or has subsided after the tapping is completed. Rate the intensity between a score of 0 – 10.
Once that fear has passed, the treatment could be completed unless other aspects relating to the fear have arisen which can be treated and brought down to an acceptable level.
